There are many neighborhoods in Anchorage with very different vibes, depending on the neighborhood, you're looking at around a 15-30 minute drive to JBER Richardson gate/Muldoon gate.

 Many of the people who live in this area work in Anchorage, a mere 15-minute drive away, but love to play in the mountains. Eagle River is particularly well-suited for mountain access as one of the principle gateways to Chugach State Park, the third-largest state park in the country at 773 square miles. 

Eagle River & Chugiak are around a 10 minute drive to JBER Richardson gate.

 With the backdrop of towering Pioneer and Twin Peaks and the surrounding Chugach Mountains, this agricultural community offers access to countless recreation opportunities in the Mat-Su Valley, just 40 miles north of Anchorage. 

Palmer & Wasilla are around a 45 minute drive to JBER Richardson gate.

 Eklutna is an Alaska Native village of about 70 residents that is within the boundaries of the Municipality of Anchorage in Southcentral Alaska. The area is best known for its iconic cemetery and the nearby Eklutna Lake, a playground for outdoor recreationalists.  

 Girdwood enjoys its status as Alaska’s only true resort town. Just 45 minutes south of Anchorage, Girdwood is home to the luxurious Alyeska Resort, fun and entertaining festivals, and countless options for year-round outdoor adventure in gorgeous mountain surroundings. 

 Located in the Chugach National Forest, Portage Glacier is one of Alaska’s most visited attractions and one of the most easily-accessible glaciers in Southcentral Alaska. Visitors access the area from the Seward Highway along the 5-mile Portage Glacier Road, which winds past a series of campgrounds and arrives at the impressive Begich, Boggs Visitor Center.
